The Vatican officially Vatican City State is a landlocked sovereign city-state whose territory consists of a walled enclave within the city of Rome, Italy. See Mapquest for directions.
Vatican City is the smallest country in the world and has an area of approximately 110 acres, and a population of around 840. This makes Vatican City the smallest internationally recognized independent state by both area and population.
Vatican City dates back to around 40 AD is about one-eighth the size of New York’s Central Park and is governed as an absolute monarchy with the pope at its head. The Vatican mints its own euros, prints its own stamps, issues passports and license plates, operates media outlets and has its own flag and anthem. One government function it lacks: taxation. Museum admission fees, stamp and souvenir sales, and contributions generate the Vatican’s revenue.
Many visitors have captured ghostly looking orbs and apparitions on camera. Could it be heavenly angels or the ghosts of Popes past? This is one side of the Vatican that is usually kept quiet. Whatever it is one thing is for sure... no matter what your faith or religious background you will feel the presence of the Holy Spirit and this is one tour that you will never forget!
